Of the many Christian education programs that have been developed over the last 50 years, few have been as popular or long-lived as Awana.   Awana is an acronym for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed," based on 2 Timothy 2:15: "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

The organization began in 1950 as a youth program at the North Side Gospel Center in Chicago, according to Awana's website. The goal was to develop a program that would appeal to young people, reach them with the gospel of Christ, and train them for ministry. As the program became increasingly successful at the Chicago church, it caught the eye of other churches looking for ways to successfully reach youth. The success was replicated with Awana clubs in numerous churches.

By 1960, Awana had registered 900 clubs in various churches, and today, more than 9,000 U.S. churches in all 50 states offer Awana clubs. In addition, Awana programs can also be found in more than 2,700 faith communities in more than 110 other countries.

The nondenominational Bible-centered youth ministry is designed to help churches evangelize youngsters and teens through local clubs. The mission is critical: According to Awana, 85 percent of people who have not accepted Jesus Christ by age 18 never will.

Awana programs are designed to address the needs of kids of different age groups. For grade school kids, Awana is divided into Cubbies (preschoolers), Sparks (kindergarten through 2nd grade), Truth & Training-T & T (3rd-6th graders), and Cross Trainers (a cross-cultural ministry for 3rd - 6th graders).

Women's Bible Study

Psalms 120 -134, often called the “Psalms of Ascension”, were

basically travel psalms sung by the Jewish pilgrims on their journey

to the temple in Jerusalem for the three annual feasts.

The  Beth Moore bible study titled, “Stepping Up”, leads us on

an exploration of these psalms  to help understand the overall

picture of our Christian growth from regeneration to the Lord’s return.

Please join us July 27th at 6:30 in room 9.
